Kerala to be Declared first Fully Digital State on August 15

Remarkable achievement of Kerala that contributed to its emergence as a ‘digital society’ is the launch of 2,300 Common Service Centres (CSCs) - the first in the country to introduce CSCs to bridge the digital divide.

KOCHI: Kerala, which will be declared India’s first fully digital state on Saturday, offers a perfect blend of a society that is ‘digitally empowered’ to demand its rights; a matured ‘e-governance system’ to provide governance and services on demand; and a ‘digitally connected’ eco-system as an enabler to balance demand and supply.

The state is also a front-runner in launching various Central and State digital initiatives. Some of the remarkable achievements of Kerala that contributed to its emergence as a ‘digital society’ are the launch of 2,300 Common Service Centres (CSCs) - the first in the country to introduce CSCs to bridge the digital divide; generation of over 3.19 crore (95 per cent) Aadhaars with more than 99 per cent enrolment; bringing over 3.7 million students under the purview of Digital Collaborative Text Books - a first in the country; doing almost 100 per cent of the civil registrations through electronic form; e-registration of more than 2.46 lakh births and 1.10 lakh deaths; and issuance of more than 1.4 crore certificates under e-district - the first in the country and the second Cloud-enabled Data Centre in the country.

The State also disburses a record `214 crore every month as social security pension to nearly 30 lakh beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), saving `91 crore as money-order commission. As per the blueprint, Kerala is one of the leading states in the country in terms of optical fibre cable (OFC) coverage, which will ensure availability of digital infrastructure as a utility to every resident of the state.
