DigiDhan Abhiyan: Changing payment landscape in Rural India

DigiDhan Abhiyan among merchants and NREGA workers in Khari GP, Block Sonepur, Odisha

Khari is a village in the tehsil of Sonepur in Subarnapur district of Odisha. Subarnapur is one of the 19 districts in Odisha currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF). VLE Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra started DigiDhan Abhiyan at his CSC on December 1, 2016. Kicking off the campaign, he approached merchants and NREGA workers with the help of village Sarpanch Rajendra Kumar Mishra. Sudhanshu had to work hard in convincing them to use technology. As a first step, he trained them basic counting and how to dial *99# and input MMID on their basic mobile phones for USSD transaction. Sudhanshu also provided digital financial training to citizens of Khari gram panchayat. With the help of small video, he screened training modules for the villagers on mobile wallets like PayTM and SBI Buddy, DigiPay, USSD, etc. Around 70 percent of the merchants in Khari gram panchayat have been enabled with mobile wallets; some have even applied for POS machines.



DigiDhan Abhiyan for farmers and dailywage workers in Sagra, Madhya Pradesh

Sagra Gram Panchayat is located in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. DigiDhan Abhiyan in Sagra GP was initiated in the village by VLE Ashish Kumar Jain. He is organizing workshops as well door to door campaign for the villagers. Grocery shopkeepers, daily wage labourers and carpenters were made aware about various options of digital transactions. Till date 300 people have been trained by the VLE in Sagra Gram Panchayat.



Dwarapudi: Cashless model village in Andhra Pradesh,

Dwarapudi, the village in Andhra Pradesh has been declared ‘cashless transaction village’. The village has 727 SHG members, 700 wage earners, 328 pensioners and 22 petty traders. Soon after demonetisation and increasing thrust on cashless transactions, the CSC team in Andhra Pradesh launched the initiative by roping in VLEs for creating awareness among villagers on Internet transactions, mobile and bank wallets, and swiping machines. All the 22 petty traders were asked to open current account in banks. They were being provided PAN card and POS machines by that day. DigiDhan Abhiyan through Prabhat Pheri in Biru GP, Simdega block, Jharkhand

On the occasion of DigiDhan Abhiyan in Simdega Block, Jharkhand, the school children and CSC Simdega started Prabhat Pheri in Biru Panchayat. More than 200 school children from Biru Panchayat participated to mark the awareness campaign. The school children briefed the citizens about the background, activities and aims and objectives of DigiDhan Abhiyan.
