  CSC to skill rural youth through IT courses under Spoken Tutorial initiative of IIT Bombay

New Delhi, October 12, 2020: Common Services Centers has partnered with IIT Bombay through its Spoken Tutorial initiative to provide various IT courses for youth in rural India to enhance their job readiness in IT and related sectors.

The courses available as Free and Open Software (FOSS) will be delivered through CSC Academycenters at the block level across the country in audio-visual mode. The audio lessons under the Spoken Tutorial are available in all 22 official languages of India.

More than 50+ IT courses are available under this initiative covering topics as programming, Operating systems, Database, Graphics/animation, etc.- basic coding for school children, Java, HTML, MySQL, PHP, C, C++, 2D/3D graphics animation, Python, Perl, Ruby, Linux, and many more. Over the period of time, IIT Bombay will add more programs to be delivered through CSC Academy.

The course delivery is unique as the youth can study IT programming courses at the CSC Academy centers. There will be trained resources at each of the CSC Academy to support the students in learning. Help Desk facility will also be provided by IIT Bombay to address the queries of the students.

After completing the course, studentshave to pass an exam. The examination will be held at the same CSC Academy and remotely proctored. CSC Academy centers are being started at every Block and will support students from underserved community in each and every part of the country. Those clearing the examination will be issued a joint certificate from CSC Academy and IIT Mumbai – Spoken Tutorial.

Announcing the partnership, CEO, CSC SPV, Dr. Dinesh Tyagisaid, “It has been our endeavour to provide quality education to students and youth in rural areas to bridge the digital divide. Our association with IIT Bombay is a significant step in that direction. Availability of courses in 22 languages will increase its uptake among the youth in rural areas, contributing to an AtmaNirbhar Bharat. This will also support in skilling the youth to meet the emerging technological challenges.”

Elaborating on the partnership, Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay said, “With this ICT program we can bridge the digital divide between rural and urban areas. Language will not be a barrier for learning as this training program is available in 22 official languages of India. With proficiency certificate, youth from rural areas will come up very strongly in the job market and India will become AtmaNirbhar.”

CSC Academy provides access to professional learning for learners of diverse backgrounds and educational needs. CSC has planned to set up 7,000 CSC Academy centres (one in every block) across the country, out of which more than 5000 are in place. Education and skills are the foundation of these centres. About Spoken Tutorial
The Spoken Tutorial is an initiative of IIT Bombay under the "Talk to a Teacher" project of the Government’s National Mission on Education. Spoken Tutorial initiative focuses on delivering IT courses on various Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) through audio-visual mode. The initiative seeks to promote IT literacy among the youth for enhancing employability.

Dr. Pramod Sawant, Hon’ Chief Minister Goa appreciated CSCs’ efforts in Digital Empowerment of the nation. He writes on his Facebook wall, “I met Shri Avdhut Dhond, who operates a CSC (Common Service Center) at Velguem, Bicholim since past 2 years. Shri Dhond, (Village Level Entrepreneur - VLE) informed that his CSC has so far delivered nearly 3000 plus services to the people under state and central government schemes and programs. CSCs serve as access points for delivery of essential public utility services, social welfare schemes, healthcare, financial, education and agriculture services, apart from host of B2C services to citizens in rural and remote areas of the country. My best wishes to Shri Dhond and all VLEs in Goa who are making efforts to deliver on our promise of ‘Antyodaya.”
