VLE transforms Hyalya village through PMGDISHA in Karnataka

Confronting the numerous challenges in remote terrain of Bellary district of Karnataka, VLE GB Nagaraja has accomplished formidable task of imparting digital literacy to villagers.

In his village Hyalya, village level entrepreneur Nagaraja has trained 500 citizens at his CSC centre under PMGDISHA scheme of Central government, out of which 400 students have cleared their exam successfully, with best exam completion ratio in district. He had built a wooded hall for students to study and give examinations at his CSC centre.

Hyalya is a medium size village located in Kudligi Taluka of Bellary district, Karnataka. The village has population of 1852 as per Population Census 2011. The village has lower literacy rate compared to Karnataka. In 2011, literacy rate of Hyalya village was 69.07 % compared to 75.36 % of Karnataka. Due to the low literacy rate of village, the PMGDISHA training has become a turning point in the lives of villagers.

Ms. Rageshwari is one among the beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) from Kudligi, Bellary. She has started her own cyber cafe after completing the training programme. “It is not just about becoming digitally literate. We have to move forward and implement the skills that we have gained through the learning process. I will spread the knowledge that I have gained through the course and my own passion for learning more,” says Rageshwari. After joining Cyber Cafe, she has focussed on imparting digital literacy to middle-aged women and housewives.

The beneficiaries in Hyala GP have also efficiently used the social media platforms by creating study group on Facebook.

VLE Nagaraja, a M.Sc in Mathematics, opted to open the CSC in December 2017, to serve the people in his locality.

Nagaraja makes full efforts to provide all G2C and B2C services at his CSC. He is thankful to CSC and the district administration for providing complete support to accomplish the goals of Digital Empowerment in Kudligi, Bellary. Before, joining CSC, Nagaraja was unemployed. The PMGDISHA scheme has been a win-win situation for VLE Nagaraja as apart from increasing his revenue, he has been able to contribute towards helping poor people. He has received appreciation from the area Sarpanch for his service under PMGDISHA.

Apart from PMGDISHA, the VLE is providing services on BCC, LIC Payment and mobile recharge. Notably, due to his firm determination, he has been given works of another Panchayat under the scheme.
