 Every block will have sanitary napkin manufacturing unit by end of this year: Hon’ Minister

“Presently there are 100 low-cost functional sanitary napkin manufacturing units across the country, and we plan to set up at least one unit at every block by the end of this year. The sanitary napkin units are meant for ensuring menstrual health and hygiene of girls and women in rural India”, said, Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad in a television interview to DD News on the occasion of completion of 48 months of present government.

Hailing the efforts of CSCs, Hon' Minister said, “CSCs are digital window for providing all digital services in villages. They are providing services like PAN card, banking, insurance, land record, Bharat Bill, Patanjali, IGNOU, making candles incense stick , LED light etc”.
“The CSCs have triggered rural entrepreneurship across villages of India providing employment opportunity to 10 lakh people including 52000 women across the country. And we aim at opening CSC centre in every Gram Panchayat by the end of this year”, Hon’ Minister asserted while talking about success of Digital India Mission in past 4 years.
He also talked about, PMGDISHA scheme under which 1.23 crore people have been made digitally literate out of target of 6 crore in rural areas, 19 crore transactions through BHIM App, and establishment of Rural BPOs for providing employment opportunities to rural youths.

 VLEs spread awareness among women on International 'Menstrual Hygiene Day'

To mark the International ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’, VLEs across the country organised several awareness drives to make girls and women informed of importance of menstrual hygiene on May 29.

Several women VLEs organised camp to make females aware of using sanitary napkins during menstruation for their better health and hygiene. The VLEs who have set up sanitary napkin manufacturing unit under CSC’s ‘Stree Swabhiman’ initiative, distributed free samples of pads to girls and women in villages.

In Chandarpur district VLE Mamta Sharda organised an event in which she invited Richaji Goswami from Sanskar channel who made women aware of menstrual hygiene and benefits of using sanitary napkins.
